PORTLAND, Ore. — The Morrison Bridge in Portland will be closed to all traffic for the next three weekends due to a maintenance project, according to a news release from Multnomah County. Drivers will need to use alternate river crossings during the closure.
This weekend's closure begins at 8 p.m. Friday and lasts until 5 a.m. Monday. The two subsequent closures will follow the same schedule on Feb. 2-4 and Feb. 9-11.
The closures will allow crews to grease and clean the gears in the bridge's lift span. The bridge went through a smaller-scale closure earlier this month to set up equipment for the project, closing one of the on-ramps. The three upcoming closures will be full-scale, blocking all traffic in both directions.
Multnomah County maintains the Morrison, Burnside, Broadway, Hawthorne and Sellwood and Wapato (formerly Sauvie Island) bridges. Portland's other bridges are maintained by the Oregon Department of Transportation, TriMet or Union Pacific Railroad.
