Pedestrian dies in North Portland collision

PORTLAND, Ore. — A man was hit by a car and died on Sunday night in North Portland according to police.

Officers responded to North Columbia Boulevard and North Interstate Place around 9:08 p.m. They found the man dead in the intersection. He has not yet been identified. 

Police say the driver of the vehicle involved remained at the scene.

As of 10:30 p.m., North Columbia Boulevard is closed from North Interstate Place to the I-5 overpass along with the area surrounding the intersection of North Argyle Street and North Interstate Place.

The Portland Police Bureau’s Major Crash Team (MCT) is taking over the investigation.

Last week, Portland Police said there had been 29 traffic fatalities involving pedestrians across the city so far this year and 63 deadly crashes total. 

The city's Vision Zero Traffic Crash Report for 2021 shows 63 people died in traffic crashes in Portland, the highest number since 1990. There were 27 pedestrians who died.
