I-5 north at Boones Ferry Road reopens after semi-truck turns over, blocking lanes

A driver at the scene told KGW that he saw the semi-truck turn over after it swerved around a car that appeared to hydroplane.

PORTLAND, Ore. — All northbound lanes of Interstate 5 at Boones Ferry Road are back open after an overturned semi-truck blocked the road Tuesday morning.

The Washington County Sheriff's Office tweeted about the crash at 6:10 a.m. The tweet said a deputy on his way to work came across the crash. He checked on everyone & made sure everything was ok until [Oregon State Police] arrived," WCSO tweeted.

A KGW photojournalist at the scene tweeted video of the semi-truck turned onto its side. The video shows multiple vehicles stopped on the road due to the semi-truck blocking the northbound lanes. A driver inside one of the vehicles told KGW that he saw the semi-truck turn over after it swerved around a car that appeared to hydroplane.

Officials have not said if weather was a contributing factor in the crash.

Flooded roads

A steady downpour on Monday and continued rainfall into Tuesday has caused roadside flooding in some spots around the Portland metro area, causing headaches for many drivers. A large puddle formed along the side of a stretch of Highway 30 near the Sauvie Island exit Monday afternoon. The high water partially submerged the eastbound lanes and caused at least one driver to spin out as their vehicle plunged through.

KGW meteorologist Joe Raineri tweeted Monday night that downtown Portland has seen 0.67 inches of rain since the afternoon.
