There was a partial collapse of a section of the Necarney Creek Bridge along Highway 101. The bridge's structure is not affected.

NEHALEM, Ore. — One lane of Highway 101 at the Necarney Creek Bridge north of Manzanita reopened on Sunday evening following the first phase of emergency repairs after a partial collapse.

The bridge which runs through Oswald West State Park was closed on Saturday morning so crews with the Oregon Department of Transporation (ODOT) could start making emergency repairs. Drivers along the Oregon Coast were warned to expect heavy delays this weekend.

ODOT said last week that the bridge would shut down for 36 hours while crews worked to remove the concrete that's hanging below. Crews will return at a later date to install permanent repairs.

Traffic on the bridge was reduced to a single lane at the end of August after a partial collapse damaged a portion of the bridge's guardrails and sidewalk. ODOT said the collapse, which is believed to have been caused by a car, did not cause any structural damage.

ODOT said Sunday night that flaggers will remain 24/7 to move traffic across the bridge until repairs are fully completed and that drivers should plan extra time into their trip.
