The north sidewalk is closed to pedestrians until Friday, Aug. 30. The south sidewalk remains open.
One westbound lane on the bridge is closed to all cars and trucks through the end of August. Cyclists can still ride along the construction zone, protected by a barricade during the closure, though they'll need to take a short detour when they get to the west side of the bridge. The eastbound center lane will also be closed until the end of August.
This construction is part of the "Hawthorne Bridge Paving and Repair Project," which according to the project's website will "repair deteriorated deck concrete and place a new deck surface, as well as replace deck joints for both the east and west sides of the bridge."
The project also states that entire closures of the bridge may take place for the safety of construction crews and pedestrians, however most of the work will be done during the night and morning when the bridge is least busy.
There is no set date when construction on the bridge will end, as officials with Multnomah County state that the lane closures will take place "until the end of August."
