PORTLAND, Ore. — Monday through Friday all this week, some lanes on the Hawthorne Bridge in Portland will be temporarily closed for ongoing maintenance and paving work. Those partial closures will be followed by a full weekend closure.

All eastbound lanes and the sidewalk will be closed between 7 p.m. and 11 a.m. Monday, Tuesday and Thursday. Pedestrians can use the westbound sidewalk; all other traffic will be directed to the detour, the news release said.

The westbound lanes will be closed starting at 7 p.m. on Wednesday and reopen at 5 a.m. on Thursday, a change to the plan that was originally reported, Multnomah County said.

Hawthorne Bridge will close again — this time to all vehicles, cyclists and pedestrians — between 6 a.m. Saturday and 6 p.m. Sunday.

According to the Multnomah County Communications Office, crews will set up detours for cyclists, but commuters need to plan to use alternative routes.

The repairs come as part of the Hawthorne Bridge Paving and Repair Project, which includes repairs to the deteriorated deck concrete, placing a new deck surface and replacing deck joints for both the east and west sides of the bridge.
