Gresham man killed in crash that closed I-5 southbound in Salem; other driver arrested for DUII

Crash that closed southbound I-5 in Salem and left one person dead

SALEM, Ore. — A Gresham man was killed in crash that closed all lanes of Interstate 5 southbound in Salem on Saturday morning.

The crash was reported at around 5 a.m. near the Portland Road interchange.

Jacob Bowlsby, 20, was driving his 2003 Kia Rio when he lost control and the car came to a stop in the middle of the freeway, according to Oregon State Police. A 1997 Honda Civic, driven by 20-year-old Oscar Aguilar Esparza, of Salem, collided with Bowlsby's Kia Rio, OSP said. 

Bowlsby was taken to a hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Aguilar Esparza was treated at a hospital and then arrested for DUII, OSP said.

The investigation is ongoing.

The crash closed the southbound lanes of the freeway until shortly before 11 a.m.
