Two pedestrians killed in separate crashes within 10-hour span, Portland police say

There have been five fatal crashes in Portland in 2022 so far; three of the crashes involved pedestrians and two of those were hit and runs.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Two pedestrians were hit and killed in separate crashes in Portland over a 10-hour span from Wednesday night to Thursday morning, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported. 

At 5:54 a.m. Thursday, a pedestrian was hit and killed on the on-ramp to Interstate 205 at Northeast Glisan Street. The crash shut down Northeast Glisan Street from 96th Avenue to 109th Avenue, including the I-205 northbound on-ramp.

Officers responded to a report that a pedestrian was pinned under a vehicle. When officers arrived, the pedestrian was dead. The driver stayed at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation, PPB said in a press release.

About 10 hours earlier, at 7:13 p.m. Wednesday, a pedestrian was struck by a hit-and-run driver in North Portland on North Denver Avenue just south of the Interstate 5 overpass. The victim was taken to the hospital before being pronounced dead. PPB didn't share any suspect or suspect vehicle information.

The PPB Major Crash Team is conducting investigations into both crashes.

There have been five fatal crashes in Portland in 2022 so far. Of the five, three of the crashes involved pedestrians and two of those were hit and runs.
