GOVERNMENT CAMP, Ore. -- A 9-year-old boy died in a two-vehicle crash that closed Highway 26 south of Mount Hood for about six hours Sunday evening.
Oregon State Police Troopers and emergency personnel responded just after 4:30 p.m. to a report of a two-vehicle crash on Highway 26 at mile post 65.
Preliminary investigation revealed that a white 2004 Ford Excursion, driven by Kenneth Schmidt of Crooked River Ranch, was traveling westbound on Highway 26 when Schmidt lost control on the snow-covered highway and crossed into the eastbound lane.
The Ford hit a silver 2013 Subaru Outback that was traveling eastbound.
A 9-year-old boy in the Subaru was pronounced deceased at the scene. His name has not been released. Also in the Subaru were Debra Jean Hahn, 48, and Linda Jean Todd, 68.
Todd was airlifted to a hospital where she is in critical condition. Hahn was taken by ambulance to a local hospital.
Schmidt and his passengers suffered minor injuries.
