Crash near Canby results in 1 teenager dead, 3 hospitalized

The initial investigation found that the teens' car had crossed the center line and hit a truck heading the other way.

CANBY, Ore. — One teenager was killed and three others injured in a crash along South New Era Road near Canby on Friday, according to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.

Deputies and crews from Canby Fire responded just before noon to a report of a crash in the 10000 block of South New Era Road, near the Canby Regency mobile home park. They arrived to find two vehicles involved, a silver sedan and a black truck.

In the sedan were four people between the ages of 15 and 16. A 16-year-old passenger died at the scene, while the driver and two other passengers were taken to a local hospital. Their conditions are currently unknown.

The driver of the truck, a 63-year-old man, was also taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The sheriff's office said an initial investigation found that the teens in the silver sedan had crossed the center line of the roadway just before the crash.

The Clackamas County Medical Examiner's Office and the Criminal Reconstruction and Forensic Technicians (CRAFT) also responded to investigate the scene, while county transportation crews directed traffic.

Circumstances surrounding the crash are still under investigation, and the sheriff's office said that it is looking for more details on the case. There have been several serious crashes involving high school students in the region within the past several weeks, resulting in injuries or deaths. On Thursday, an SUV packed with nine teenagers veered from a roadway near Salmon Creek in Clark County and rolled down an embankment. Most of them were injured, but there were no deaths.
