Portland Timbers host Colorado Rapids for season opener

The Colorado Rapids and the Portland Timbers will face off in the first game of the season at Providence Park at 7:30 p.m.

PORTLAND, Ore. — Saturday marks the 2024 Major League Soccer (MLS) opener, as the Portland Timbers will host the Colorado Rapids at Providence Park.

Kickoff is at 7:30 p.m. and marks the 30th regular season meeting between the Timbers and Rapids in MLS competition.

The last time they faced off on Sept. 23, 2023, the Timbers scored a 3-2 win and is unbeaten against the Rapids in three straight matches, according to the Timbers.

This also marks the Timbers' first game under new head coach Phil Neville. Neville had agreed to a multi-year contract that will keep him in Portland through 2026. His hiring was met with pushback from Timbers fans due to sexist and misogynistic social media posts from Neville's past.

The game will also stream live on MLS Season Pass on the Apple TV app in English and Spanish, along with radio broadcasts on 750 The Game (English) and La GranD 1150AM/93.5 FM (Spanish).
