PORTLAND, Ore. — For the third straight Olympics, Portland Thorns forward Jainine Beckie and midfielder Jessie Fleming will compete for team Canada on their quest for Olympic gold.

Fleming and Beckie become the fourth Thorns participating in the 2024 Paris Olympics, joining Sophia Smith and Sam Coffey, who are representing team USA.

Notably, fellow Thorns midfielder Christine Sinclair will not be on Canada's Olympic roster after she announced her retirement from international soccer in 2023.

Beckie and Fleming made their Olympic debuts in Rio de Janeiro where Canada won the bronze medal in 2016. They also helped lead Canada to the gold medal in 2021. Fleming scored two goals in the 2021 semifinal game. Beckie has scored five total goals between the 2016 and 2021 Olympics.

Fleming was named captain of the Canadian national team in February after being handed the reigns by Sinclair. Fleming has 132 appearances for team Canada, while Beckie has made 105.

Fleming's career with the Canucks began over a decade ago and in that time, she has recorded 19 goals and nine assists.

Beckie will be making her first appearance for Canada in over a year after missing the entire 2023 season with an anterior cruciate ligament tear. In her career, Beckie has scored 36 goals and contributed 17 assists, the fifth most goals and seventh most assists in the history of Canada women's soccer.

Team Canada is a part of Group A during pool play of the Olympics, along with New Zealand, France and Columbia.

Canada's first game kicks off on July 25 against New Zealand, then against France on July 28, before finishing out pool play against Columbia on July 31.
