WASHINGTON — Simone Biles has added several gold medals to her collection during her third trip to the Summer Games.
Biles nailed her eponymous Yurchenko double pike vault Saturday to win the gold medal, the seventh of her Olympic career. She has 10 total medals so far, and has won gold in Paris in the team final, the all-around and the vault.
The 27-year-old became the oldest American woman to make an Olympic gymnastics team since the 1950s, after securing a win at the Olympic trials,
In the two years she took off after Tokyo, she experienced many changes.
Last year, the 2016 Olympic all-around champion made a stunning return to gymnastics, winning a record sixth world title. The gymnastics superstar regularly meets with therapists, even during competitions — a sign that she continues to prioritize her mental health.
Gymnastics aside, the athlete also married her longtime partner Jonathan Owens last year.
Who is Simone Biles' husband?
Biles married Jonathan Owens in April 2023 at a courthouse in Houston.
The couple met on a dating app called Raya in March 2020 and began dating shortly after. A few weeks after their marriage, they held a second ceremony in Cabo San Lucas, Mexico.
"I do ... officially Owens," the seven-time Olympic medalist wrote on Instagram at the time, sharing photos of the ceremony. In his own post, Owens called her "My person, forever."
Biles’ husband has been seen in stands during the Olympians time in Paris, cheering her on as the 27-year-old continues to make history.
What team does Jonathan Owens play for?
Owens, who is an athlete himself, is currently playing as a safety for the Chicago Bears.
The NFL team is allowing him to miss out on five days of training camp in order to travel to Paris to cheer on his wife. Owens posted photos on his Instagram story Sunday as he cheered on Biles while watching from the U.S. He's expected to head overseas Monday night, before the gymnastics finals.
The athletic pair are building a house in the Houston suburbs that will be finished in late summer or early fall — after the Paris Games.
Support goes both ways for the couple.
During the 2024 NFL season, Biles was a frequent face in the Green Bay Packers' stadium, supporting her football husband as his team attempted a bid for the Super Bowl.
