PORTLAND, Ore. -- Evan Jager, who lives in Portland and trains with the Bowerman Track Club, won an Olympic silver medal Wednesday morning in the 3,000 meter steeplechase.
Conseslus Kipruto of Kenya won the gold in 8:03.28. Jager came in at 8:04.28 and Ezekiel Kemboi of Kenya earned bronze in 8:08.47. Evans ran strongly and was leading at the bell.

Jager and the Bowerman Track Club are sponsored by Nike. After leaving the University of Wisconsin, he enrolled at Portland State University.
Hillary Bor, who trains in Oregon with the U.S. Army, finished ninth with a personal best of 8:22.74.
Jager is the first U.S. men's steeplechase medalist since Brian Diemer's 1984 bronze medal win. The United States' best finish in the event was a gold in 1952 by Horace Aschenfelter.
