PARIS, France — Oregon State gymnast Jade Carey earned herself a bronze medal in the women's individual vault final at the Paris Olympics on Saturday, finishing with two medals during this year's Olympic Games.
Simone Biles took home the gold medal, finishing with a score of 15.300, while Rebeca Andrade from Brazil finished with a silver and Carey took home the bronze.
Carey's two vaults scored 14.733 on the first rotation and 14.200 on the second for a combined 14.466. Those cumulative scores were enough for her to place third grabbing her second Olympic medal this year and third all time.
Oregon Sen. Ron Wyden posted on X, formerly Twitter, congratulating Carey on her newest Olympic medal.
Oregon State also lauded Carey's performance, with a clip of Carey's performance and posting, "Did the Dam thing 🥉#GoBeavs x #OlympiansMadeHere."
Carey competed in the vault during the women's team all-around on Tuesday, where she scored a 14.800, ranking third behind only Biles and Brazilian gymnast Rebeca Andrade.
While Carey's vault scores have been impressive, she did not qualify for floor exercises — an event in which she took home gold at the Tokyo Olympics — after a series of falls, which she later revealed was due to her dealing with an illness during her routine. Despite that, Carey placed third on the vault on qualification day, once again losing only to Andrade and Biles.
Carey narrowly edged out her U.S. teammate, Jordan Chiles, beating her by 0.216 points to secure a spot in the individual final. Only two athletes from each country are allowed to advance to the finals.
Carey will return to Oregon State for her senior year, now multi-Olympic gold medalist and an Olympic bronze medalist in the vault.
