PORTLAND, Ore. -- Portland State University held the grand opening ceremony for the new Viking Pavilion on Monday.
“This is going to be a great center for athletics and a cultural center,” said university president Rahmat Shoureshi.
The Viking Pavilion has a 3,000-seat arena that will be home to the Portland State volleyball and basketball teams. There’s also a new weight room, locker rooms, academic center and administrative offices, as well as the new OHSU Sports Medicine Center.
The total cost of the project is $52 million. Nearly $20 million came from private gifts and PSU project funds; $7.5 million was a sponsorship from OHSU; $24 million are from state bonds and $1.5 million are from student fees.
