PORTLAND, Ore. -- The NCAA men's and women's basketball tournaments are returning to Portland starting in 2019.
The men's tournament will make an appearance in Portland in 2022, while the women's tournament will be here in 2019 and 2020. All the games will be played at the Moda Center. The NCAA announced host sites through the 2021-22 season for both the men's and women's tournament on Tuesday morning.
Portland last hosted the men's tournament in 2015, when first- and second-round games were played at the Moda Center. This is the first time Portland has hosted a women's regional round since 2000, when the games were played at Veterans Memorial Coliseum.
In 2019, the women's west regional games will be played at the Moda Center from March 29 through April 1, and in 2020, from March 27-30.
The first and second round of the men's tournament will be played at the Moda Center on March 17 and 19 in 2022.
"Basketball fans in Portland are extremely passionate and knowledgeable," said Chris Oxley, Senior Vice President of Venue Operations at the Rose Quarter. "We're looking forward to bringing them the best that college basketball has to offer."
A bid by Oregon State University, the Rose Quarter, the Oregon Sports Authority and Travel Portland, submitted in August 2016, was selected by the NCAA. Oregon State will host all the games.
"We are excited that fans in Portland ... can watch college basketball's premier event in their own backyard," said Oregon State men's basketball coach Wayne Tinkle.
