TOP PLAYERS
While it's uncertain which teams will play in the games in Portland next weekend, it's guaranteed that some of these star players below will take the Moda Center court — pending how the first and second round plays out this weekend.
Second-seeded Stanford features Beaverton native Cameron Brink. The star forward is one of the top players in the country. Last week, she announced that she won't return to Stanford next season and will enter the WNBA draft, where she's expected to be one of the top picks. Brink, who starred at both Southridge High School and Mountainside High School in Beaverton, has averaged 17.8 points, 12 rebounds and 3.5 blocks for the Cardinal's this season. Brink's teammate, sophomore forward Kiki Iriafen, has been a steady second star next to Brink, averaging 18.6 points and 11.0 rebounds per game.
USC freshman JuJu Watkins is the nation's second-leading scorer behind Iowa's Caitlin Clark (who won't be playing in Portland, unfortunately), at 27.0 points per game. The guard also averages 7.2 rebounds, 3.2 assists, 2.4 steals and 1.5 blocks per game.
Tennessee, a 6 seed, features senior Rickea Jackson. The forward leads the Vols in scoring (19.4 points) and rebounding (8.0) this season.
UConn features Paige Bueckers and Aaliyah Edwards. Bueckers, a junior guard, averages 21.3 points, 4.8 rebounds and 3.7 assists, and Edwards, a senior forward, is second on the Huskies in scoring at 17.8 points per game and the team's leading rebounder (9.3 per game).
Fifth-seeded Utah is led by Alissa Pili, a senior forward, who has averaged 20.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game this season.
Virginia Tech is led by seniors Georgia Amoore and Elizabeth Kitley. Amoore, a guard, is a sharp-shooter, making 81 3-pointers this season, while averaging 19.2 points and 6.9 assists. Kitley, a center, has averaged 22.8 points, 11.4 rebounds and 2.1 blocks.
Jacy Sheldon, Ohio State's senior guard, leads the Buckeyes with 18.0 points, 3.7 assists and 2.1 steals per game. Celeste Taylor, another senior guard for Ohio State, averages 10.2 points, 4.1 rebounds and 2.3 steals per game. Sheldon and Taylor are among the best defenders in college basketball.
Madison Booker, a freshman forward for Texas, is the Longhorns' leading scorer at 16.9 points per game. She also averages 4.9 assists, 4.8 rebounds and 1.5 steals per game. Texas junior guard Rori Harmon averages 14.1 points, 7.9 assists, 5.6 rebounds and 3.1 steals per game.
Gonzaga senior forward Yvonne Ejim leads the Bulldogs with 19.8 points, 8.5 rebounds, 2.2 assists, 1.5 steals and 1.0 block per game.
Iowa State, a 7 seed, is led by a dynamic freshman duo in center Audi Crooks and forward Addy Brown. Crooks averages 18.9 points and 7.7 rebounds, while Brown averages 13.1 points, 8.3 rebounds and 4.9 assists.
