EUGENE, Ore. — The University of Oregon, Washington, USC and UCLA have officially joined the Big Ten after Oregon and Washington announced they would be leaving the Pac-12 on Aug. 4.
Nearly all sports — including football, basketball and baseball for the Ducks, Huskies, Trojans and Bruins — will play alongside their new Midwestern brethren, forming a now-18 team conference.
This conference realignment has been in the works for over two years now; in June 2022, USC and UCLA shocked the world when they announced they would be leaving the Pac-12 for the Big Ten. One summer later, Oregon and Washington announced they would be doing the same.
This led to the implosion of the Pac-12, as teams such as Colorado and Arizona hightailed it to the Big 12, while Stanford and Cal chose to join the ACC, leaving behind Oregon State and Washington State.
The Big Ten announced the schools official joining of the Big Ten by remaking their iconic map video showcasing all the schools, now extending it to its new West Coast members.
The Ducks' first sport to take on a new Big Ten opponent will be when the women's soccer team takes on Rutgers on Sept. 19.
