PORTLAND, Ore. – Jesuit volleyball player Nicole Peterson was named the MaxPreps National Girls Volleyball Player of the Year.
Peterson led to Jesuit to its second straight undefeated season and state championship. The Crusaders lost just four sets during the two dominant season.
"Being named National Player of the Year is such a great honor. I don't know really what to say. This is just awesome," said Peterson, who was named the winner on Dec. 16. "As a team, we worked so hard to be successful."
The 6-foot senior was the 2014 6A Player of the Year as an outside hitter. She won the award again this season as a setter, averaging 11 assists per set.
"Nicole is a standout in all of the positions we asked her to play, and she played wherever the team needed her," said Jesuit head coach Teresa Zimmerlee. "Nicole is competitive, confident, and an amazing floor leader. She is powerful and has great court vision."
Peterson also had one of the best serves in the state, piling up 120 aces this season.
“It just came natural to me and I was strong enough to make it work,” Peterson said.
Peterson has signed to play volleyball at the University of San Francisco.
