Former Duck Matthew Centrowitz wins 1,500, punches ticket to Rio

EUGENE, Ore. -- Former University of Oregon track and field star Matthew Centrowitz won the men's 1500 meters at the U.S. Track and Field Trials on Sunday night.

EUGENE, Ore. -- Former University of Oregon track and field star Matthew Centrowitz won the men's 1500 meters at the U.S. Track and Field Trials on Sunday night.

Centrowitz's time of 3:34.09 outpaced second-place finisher Robby Andrews' time of 3:34.88 and Ben Blankship's time of 3:36.18, which was good for third.

Centrowitz, who ran for the Ducks from 2009 until he turned professional in 2011, finished fourth at the 1500 meters in the 2012 Olympics. He won a silver medal in the 1500 at the 2013 World Championships in Athletics and a bronze medal in the 1500 meters at the 2011 World Championships in Athletics.
