PORTLAND, Ore. — Students at Glenfair Elementary School in Northeast Portland got a big surprise Friday afternoon when second-year Portland Trail Blazer Anfernee Simons surprised the school to dedicate its newly upgraded gym.
The students now to get to play basketball with new hoops, there’s fresh paint on the walls and a rock wall for students to climb on. All of the new upgrades were made possible by a $22,000 grant from United Healthcare of Oregon.
They gave the grant to Simons’ Dreambuilders program.
“United Healthcare for making this happen today giving you guys brand new basketball goals and just looking at you guys I remember being in your same shoes as you,” said Simons.
After the dedication, Simons played a game of knockout with a couple of students in front of the entire school.
