PORTLAND, Ore. -- Who knew April 24 is DNA Day?
A Wilson High School sophomore is celebrating in a big way.
Sagan Ghim, 15, finished second in an international essay contest with more than 600 entries. Its sponsor is The American Society of Human Genetics.
Ghim wrote her two-and-a-half page paper as part of OHSU's Partnership for Scientific Inquiry program.
"We have 45 students from more than 20 schools this semester learning what's it's like to be a scientist and work in research," explained Dr. Tammy Martin.
Ghim gets a $600 award, as does the OHSU program.
What would she like us to remember about DNA?
"It's incredible that it makes us all unique, it makes us who we are," she concluded.
