What Under Armour's gleaming Portland HQ will look like

Under Armour Inc.'s soon-to-be Portland office will be draped in glass and give passers-by a view of an indoor track that loops around the work space.
A glass facade might wrap around Under Armour's new Portland office. A developer has filed plans to remove the former downtown YMCA's exterior wall and replace it with glass in order to flood the inside with natural light.

Under Armour Inc.'s soon-to-be Portland office will be draped in glass and give passers-by a view of an indoor track that loops around the work space.

The Business Journal first reported in April that Under Armour signed a long-term lease for the 70,000-square-foot former YMCA immediately south of downtown.

On Tuesday, the Portland firm Siteworks Design Build filed documents with the city that give the first details about significant renovations ahead of Under Armour's expected occupation of the building in 2016.

Siteworks and Seattle developer InterUrban Development plan to rip the exterior off the building and replace it with a glass wall that will flood the interior with natural light. The old YMCA running track will remain and encircle a large pod of open-air work spaces.

The project will cost an estimated $4 million. The building sold in April for $10 million to Run Our Dream LLC, which was formed in December. The owners of the LLC aren't listed in public records.

The building will house a significant chunk of the Baltimore-based company's footwear and innovation operations.

Also of note: The early assistance application filed by Siteworks and Interurban notes "future building expansion" and "relationship with parks" as topics the developers want to discuss with city planners.

The building overlooks the running track in city-owned Duniway Park. Under Armour is expected to make renovations to the park as part of the project.

The application is the first point in a lengthy design review process. Construction isn't expect to start for at least six months. The public will have the opportunity to comment on Under Armour's plans.
