Victoria's Secret: Men allowed in fitting area

Men are allowed in the dressing room at Victoria's Secret shops, a fact that surprised and upset at least one local customer.

An email from a KGWviewer has exposed a little known fact about a popular lingerie store.

Men are allowed in the dressing room at Victoria's Secret shops.

A McMinville woman complained to the company about the policy after an unhappy shopping experience. Mary Mode, a Victoria's Secret customer, didn't like that men were allowed to wait outside the dressing room area at the shop.

When we went into the fitting room there were men in there, said Mode. I got so angry when I saw men in there.

Mode said she's aware that men who like to wear women's lingerie are allowed to step into a dressing room, alone , and try on whatever they want.

I know there are men who do this and as long as they're behind that closed door I don't care what they do, said Mode. But when I step out of my closed dressing room door with a teddy or bra on and I am confronted with another man standing there who is checking out his girlfriend in lingerie and I have to walk right next to, I'm sorry that upsets me, said Mode.

Mode says she complained to a shop employee but got no answers. She emailed Victoria's Secret's customer relations department and was even more shocked by their response: It's company policy.

The response to her email said, in part: Victoria's Secret does allow men to use our fitting rooms. However there are specific guidelines for males in fitting room areas.

According to Mode, those guidelines weren't being followed.

According to their email, those men should have been directed to come back at a less busy time or to a more private dressing area. I did not hear or see that.

Customers KGW spoke with had mixed views. Some, like Mode, were shocked by the policy. Others said they weren't that concerned.

When KGW contacted Victoria's Secret, a company spokesperson said they were not aware that the customer was unhappy with their policy, and said they'd be contacting her directly to address her concerns.
