MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. -- Target is coming to the Galleria in downtown Portland.

The store will be located at the building on Southwest 10th and Alder, the Bill Naito company confirmed on Wednesday.

Mayor Sam Adams said the city would be putting out more information on February 16. The store was expected to open in 2013.

Adams has been known for his staunch opposition to the Wal-Mart chain's attempts to locate on the edge's of Portland, most recently last fall on Hayden Island.

The mayor is against companies that have not demonstrated social responsibility and they cannot demonstrate the value they would bring to the neighborhood, Adams' spokesman Roy Kaufman said in 2010. It's a very different statement than saying we're cart blanche against big box stores wherever they may be, it's a very different proposition to say a potential store like Target in the central city in the downtown core where our goal is to revitalize the district.
