OREGON CITY, Ore. – The FBI and Oregon State Police are investigating a suspicious letter sent to the Clackamas County Sheriff's Office.
The letter was similar to the suspicious letters sent to government offices around the state last month.
Sgt. Nathan Thompson said an employee working in the mail room Thursday morning noticed the letter. The mail room, which is in a separate building away from the main sheriff's office, was evacuated out of an abundance of caution. Authorities called a hazardous materials team to the scene to examine the letter.
"Hazmat personnel tested the area and the letter, and found no substance of concern," Thompson said in a news release.
The postmark on the letter was July 25, which was the same date on the other suspicious letters sent around the state. The FBI said no substances were found in any of those letters, either. A person of interest in the case was briefly detained. He was not charged with a crime.
The letter was turned over to OSP investigators.
