PORTLAND, Ore. – A blocked sewer pipe caused about 6,000 gallons of sewage to flow into the Willamette River Saturday night.
The sewage entered the river from a pipe north of the St. Johns Bridge, near Cathedral Park. The overflow was reported around 6:30 p.m. and stopped by 11:30 p.m., according to Linc Mann with the Bureau of Environmental Services.
People are asked to avoid contact with the Willamette River upstream of Cathedral Park through Monday evening due to increased bacteria in the water.
