AMBOY, Wash. — A 7-year-old girl was rescued Monday morning from a steep section of shoreline at a campground in Clark County after a fisherman heard her crying for help. She'd been reported missing the night before and crews had spent the night searching for her.

The girl was staying with her grandparents at Lake Merwin Campers Hideaway, located north of Amboy near Lake Merwin. Her grandparents reported her missing at around 8:30 p.m. They said she'd last been seen between 7:30 and 8 p.m. sitting right across from her campsite.

Deputies and area residents started to search for her and after they didn't find her, Clark County Search and Rescue was called out. Volunteers searched throughout the night and into Monday morning. The Clark County Sheriff's Office Marine Patrol and Major Crimes Unit responded. During the search, access to the campground was closed.

Around 8:45 a.m. Monday, a fisherman heard a child crying for help from a steep shoreline and called 911. CCSO Marine Patrol accessed the shoreline around 9:30 a.m. and were able to rescue the girl. She was taken back to the boat dock and reunited with her family.

A spokesperson for the Clark County Sheriff's Office told KGW that the girl may have slipped and tumbled into some bushes and become disoriented. The girl was checked by medical responders at the scene and the sheriff's office spokesperson said he believes she avoided any major injuries.
