PORTLAND, Ore. — A Camas Police Department patrol car was totaled and an officer suffered minor injuries in a severe crash Sunday night, police reported.
An on-duty officer driving a fully marked patrol car was traveling east along Northwest Lake Road when a car driving west turned into the intersection and crashed into the patrol car at the Northwest Parker Street intersection. Both cars were deemed totaled due to the damage to each vehicle, according to police.
Officer Casey Handley and occupants of the other car were treated for minor injuries at the scene. Handley was transported to a nearby hospital for further treatment and observation before being released, Camas police said.
"It was frightening to learn of the collision last night involving one of our Camas PD officers and seeing the extent of the vehicular damage," said Camas Police Chief Tina Jones.
The Washington State Patrol was called to assist and is investigating the collision.
"Our team is wishing our officer a speedy recovery," Jones added.
