Four years ago, Nancy Moyer disappeared from her Tenino home. Now a new set of eyes and hears are breathing life into the case.
Fred Doughty, a retired police officer, has decided to pick up the case. Thursday afternoon, a team from his agency, Celtic Investigations, interviewed one of Moyer's co-workers at a restaurant in Lacey.
She was looking forward to the weekend, Bev Poston told Doughty. She was going out. I didn't ask her where she was going and I could kick myself now for it.
I think she was probably murdered, said Doughty. I felt that way from the beginning and the more I look into it, I feel stronger about it. And to be honest, I think it's somebody she knew.
In an age of police department budget cuts and limited resources, Doughty says police detectives welcome the help on the four-year-old case. The 36-year-old mother of two girls vanished from her Tenino home. Police found the television on, a glass of wine on the table, and her car in the driveway.
Looks like she just walked away, Lt. Chris Mealy, of the Thurston County Sheriff's Office, said at the time.
Moyer's disappearance still haunts her coworkers at the Department of Ecology, who today are hopeful that the Doughty's firm can find something new.
[The suspect] thinks they got away with something, said Poston. They think this went pretty slick for them. And if they've done this once, they're going to do it again.
Moyer was separated from her husband at the time of her disappearance. Police say he passed a polygraph test and is not a suspect.
