PORTLAND -- Police have reported that pickpocketing crimes are increasing in bars across the Portland area, with the latest reports coming from The Eagle Bar, on N Lombard Street.
Police said the suspect's mode of operation involved distracting his victims with affectionate behavior.
We're hearing of a pickpocketer who apparently hugs people and then in the course of the hug basically steals the person's wallet, said Lt. Robert King, of the Portland Police Bureau.
To protect yourself, King said it's best to keep your wallet in your front pocket or in a zipped area.
Also, he said never leave your purse, wallet or other personal belongings unattended.
