A Portland man pleaded guilty to a federal bribery charge after prosecutors said he offered to pay an ICE officer $4,000 to deport his estranged wife and her child from a previous relationship.
Antonio Oswaldo Burgos, 48, faces up to 15 years in prison and a $250,000 fine after pleading guilty to one count of bribery of a public official.
Burgos tried to bribe the deportation officer on three different occasions beginning in May of 2018, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office. After multiple phone calls and a face-to-face meeting with the officer, Burgos was arrested on June 29.
Burgos was in the process of divorcing his wife, who is from El Salvador.
His sentencing is scheduled for May 6, 2019.
