PORTLAND Portland s arena football team announced Tuesday that the franchise will be called the Portland Thunder.
We wanted to choose a powerful name that will define our team and attitude of our franchise, said owner Terry Emmert.
The name for the team was chosen from hundreds of fan-submitted entries, Emmert said.
Seth Johnson, the first person to submit Portland Thunder, officially won the naming contest and will receive a pair of season tickets for his submission.
The Portland Thunder will kick off the inagural season-opener at the Moda Center on Mar. 17 against the San Jose Sabercats.
