VANCOUVER, Wash. (AP) - Washington state Rep. Jim Moeller has announced he will run for lieutenant governor.
The Columbian reports the liberal Democrat from Vancouver will give up the seat he's held for more than 10 years to join the race.
Moeller was elected to the House in 2002 and often presides over the House as speaker pro tempore. He is a chemical dependency counselor with Kaiser Permanente who also severed eight years on the Vancouver City Council.
Democratic state Sens. Karen Fraiser, of Olympia, and Cyrus Habib, of Seattle, are also running for the seat. Republican Javier Figueroa is also in the race.
Democratic Lt. Gov. Brad Owen has held the seat since 1996. A spokesman for Owen told The Columbian Monday he has not decided whether to seek re-election in 2016.
