SEATTLE — Major highways shut down in Seattle on Tuesday morning as Vice Presidential candidate and Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz traveled to a private campaign event on the Eastside.
Northbound Interstate 5 in downtown Seattle and eastbound state Route 520 briefly closed about 8:30 a.m., according to the Washington State Department of Transportation. The roads have since reopened.
Walz attended a private event on behalf of the Harris Victory Fund, a joint fundraising committee, in Hunts Point at 9 a.m.
"With ballots already being cast in some states, it is more important than ever that we explain our vision for an opportunity economy that doesn't just help families get by, but helps them get ahead," the Democratic Party said in a prepared statement. "We look forward to helping Governor Walz make that case in the closing weeks of this election."
Walz arrived in Seattle Monday night landing at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport around 9 p.m. before staying overnight in downtown Seattle.
After Walz' visit to Hunts Point, he is expected to travel to Sacramento later on Tuesday.
The trip to King County follows the Oct. 1 debate between Walz and Ohio Republican Senator and Vice Presidential candidate JD Vance. The debate was the first encounter between the two followed the September debate between the Presidential candidates Kamala Harris and former President Donald Trump.
