Trump appointees, including Rep. Lori Chavez-Deremer, targeted with bomb threats and 'swatting' calls

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office confirmed a threat to Chavez-DeRemer, but not its nature. Chavez-DeRemer was recently nominated to Trump's Cabinet.

OREGON, USA — U.S. Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer said she was among the Trump Cabinet nominees targeted with bombing threats and "swatting attacks." Chavez-DeRemer was recently tapped to lead the U.S. Labor Department.

Chavez-DeRemer said the incident happened Tuesday night.

"Last night, my family and I were targeted with a pipe bomb threat at our Oregon home. Thanks to the quick response of the Clackamas County Sheriff’s Office, we are safe. We deeply appreciate their dedication to protecting our community," Chavez-DeRemer said on X, formerly known as Twitter.

She also quote-tweeted the Trump-Vance transition team's statement, which stated that such incidents happened to other nominees and appointees last night and this morning.

FBI Portland confirmed Wednesday to KGW via email that there are "numerous bomb threats and swatting incidents targeting incoming administration nominees and appointees."

" ... we are working with our law enforcement partners. We take all potential threats seriously, and as always, encourage members of the public to immediately report anything they consider suspicious to law enforcement," the office said in a statement, though they did not confirm a specific threat directed towards Chavez-DeRemer.

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office did confirm that they'd responded to a threat against Chavez-DeRemer, but said the investigation was being handled by the FBI.

Among those reportedly targeted are New York Rep. Elise Stefanik, Trump’s pick to serve as the next ambassador to the United Nations; Matt Gaetz, Trump’s initial pick to serve as attorney general; and former New York Congressman Lee Zeldin, who has been tapped to lead the Environmental Protection Agency.

Susie Wiles, Trump's incoming chief of staff, and Pam Bondi, the former Florida attorney general whom Trump has chosen as Gaetz's replacement, were also targeted, according to a law enforcement official who spoke on condition of anonymity as the investigation continues. Wiles and Bondi did not immediately respond to requests for comment.

Chavez-DeRemer currently represents Oregon's 5th Congressional District but was defeated in the Nov. 5 election by Democratic Oregon state Rep. Janelle Bynum in a close race that became one of the most expensive in the state and one of the most watched in the country.
