HILLSBORO, Ore. — While there are several political positions on the ballot in Washington County in this year's May primary election, ballot measures represent some of the most impactful votes this year — many of them local to cities or portions of the county.

In nonpartisan races, a candidate who receives over 50% of the vote will win outright in this May primary election. If no candidate can claim a majority once all valid ballots are counted, the race will go to a runoff in November between the top two vote-getters.

Results are expected starting at 8 p.m. Ballots will continue to be counted and the story will be updated as additional vote totals come in.

Board of Commissioners

Two seats on the Washington County Board of Commissioners are up for election this year. In the District 1 race, Commissioner Nafisa Fai is running for reelection. There is no incumbent in the District 3 race. The race for Washington County Sheriff has been excluded, as Sheriff Caprice Massey is running for reelection unopposed.

In early results as of 10 p.m. Tuesday night, Nafisa Fai held a commanding lead over Jenny Kamprath — 59% to 40%.

Washington County Commissioner, District 3

Jason Snider was handily winning the District 3 board seat in early results as of 10 p.m. Tuesday night, with 81.6% of the vote to Peter Huhtala's 17.13%.

Ballot Measures

There are a number of ballot measures in Washington County this election, none of them county-wide. Despite their more limited scope, some of these measures are politically controversial, like the vote on whether to expand the urban growth boundary for North Plains. Others would raise property taxes if they pass but could result in service cuts if they fail.
