PORTLAND, Ore. — Portland voters will have a chance to submit questions for the debate between five candidates in the race for mayor.

KGW and The Oregonian/OregonLive are co-hosting the debate on Tuesday, October 15 between Rene Gonzalez, Carmen Rubio, Keith Wilson, Mingus Mapps and Liv Osthus.

In addition to questions asked by our moderators, the candidates will also take video questions submitted. You can submit your own question up until Friday, October 11.

To submit a question, please follow these steps:

  • Record your question on your phone. Hold the phone horizontally and ensure you're in a quiet and well-lit place. It's important we’re able to clearly hear the question.
  • Keep your question to 20 seconds or less.
  • Both candidates will answer the question, so please don't address questions to a specific candidate.
  • Email your question to debate@kgw.com. (You can use a free program like WeTransfer if the file is too large to email.)
  • Include your name, where you live and contact information so we can reach you with any follow-up questions.

Portlanders will see 19 names on the ballot for mayor. To determine which candidates would participate, KGW and The Oregonian looked at the candidates who have raised the most money in campaign contributions, excluding city matching funds, as well as the candidates who have amassed the highest number of Portland donors.

Election day is November 5. The KGW/Oregonian debate will be broadcast live just as ballots start to arrive in mailboxes across the state. You can watch the debate live on KGW from 6:30-7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 15. You can also stream the debate on the KGW website, the KGW News YouTube channel, the KGW News app or on KGW+ on Roku, Fire TV or Apple TV.
