SEATTLE — Track vote totals in statewide Initiative 2124 by county on KING 5's exclusive interactive map during the November general election in Washington state.
If passed, I-2124 would allow anyone to opt out of the WA Cares Fund, which provides money for long-term care insurance.
An initial round of election returns is expected to be released shortly after 8 p.m. on Election Day. These returns are from ballots that were turned in early and tabulated.
Counties will release additional results in the days after the election as more ballots are counted. Additional results are typically released daily.
On the map below, click individual counties to see a breakdown of the results by county and see what percentage of people voted for and against the initiative.
I-2124 is one of four initiatives backed by the conservative group Let's Go Washington this election cycle. This measure would expand people's ability to opt out of the state's long-term care insurance program.
Right now, employees pay 0.58% of their paychecks to fund the program. Starting in July 2026, Washingtonians can access a $36,500 benefit for long-term care insurance.
Supporters of the initiative argue the program is too expensive and that workers should have the right to choose whether or not to participate in the program. However, opponents of the initiative said that allowing anyone to opt out of the program would gut the fund, and it would effectively repeal the program.
Lawmakers created the WA Cares Fund in 2019, and premiums began being deducted in 2023. It was the first of its kind across the United States.
