Marie Gluesenkamp Perez outpaces Joe Kent in fundraising for Washington's 3rd District

The latest campaign finance data shows Rep. Gluesenkamp Perez (D) raking in millions more than Republican opponent Joe Kent in the "toss-up" race for Congress.

VANCOUVER, Wash. — Rep. Marie Gluesenkamp Perez has raised more than $10 million in her bid to win re-election in Washington's 3rd Congressional District, according to the most recent campaign finance filings with the Federal Election Commission.

Republican Joe Kent, who is challenging Gluesenkamp Perez in a rematch for the seat, has raised about $2.43 million this election cycle.

The total campaign fundraising numbers include both individual contributions and transfers from other authorized committees, as listed on the October quarterly reports.

The latest FEC filings, submitted Oct. 15, show campaign contributions made between July 18 and September 30.

In that stretch, Gluesenkamp Perez raised about $3.22 million and Kent raised about $886,000.

About 90% of the recent contributions made to Gluesenkamp Perez came from individuals, compared to about 30% for Kent. The Kent campaign collected most of its money through political action committees or transfers from other sources, per the FEC filings.

The non-partisan Cook Political Report classifies the WA-03 rematch as a toss-up, with the Democrat Gluesenkamp Perez holding the seat in a district that has voted in favor of President Trump in the last two presidential election years.

Earlier this month, Kent told KGW that his campaign is better positioned financially than it was in 2022 when he lost narrowly to Gluesenkamp Perez.

"Unfortunately, in 2022, at this phase we were flat broke," Kent said on October 2. "We spent all our money getting out of that really divided primary. We have a very unified Republican Party right now, so I'm very grateful for that."

Kent's campaign spokesperson Flo Rossmiller said that the Joe Kent Victory Fund — consisting of Kent's principal campaign committee referenced above in addition to the Washington State Republican Party, the National Republican Congressional Committee and KENT PAC — raised more than a million dollars in the latest quarter.

"It's encouraging to see this surge in support as we race towards the finish line," Rossmiller said, in part. "Our message is getting out, and we are poised to flip this seat so I can restore common-sense policies to Congress."

Emmett Avery, a Gluesenkamp Perez campaign spokesperson, said her donation totals show how she's worked to be a bipartisan member of Congress focused on lowering costs for families and securing the border.

"Support for that work is reflected in the 39,600 unique supporters who contributed to Marie’s campaign in the last three months alone," Avery said. "Maintaining that deep grassroots energy will be critical to winning in November, as Marie refuses to accept corporate PAC contributions."

As of October 30, Gluesenkamp Perez held a significant advantage over Kent in cash on hand, reporting $1,283,571 to Kent's $513,661.

Washington ballots will be mailed out starting on October 18, signaling the start of the 18-day voting period.
