VANCOUVER, Wash. — There are a handful of local races and measures on the 2024 ballot in Clark County, including two county council seats and three proposed county charter amendments. KGW has you covered for the most up-to-date results for each race, starting with the first round of ballots at 8 p.m. Tuesday.
None of the cities in Clark County have any seats on the ballot this year because Washington cities and towns all hold their municipal elections in odd-numbered years, but Vancouver does have a handful of charter amendments and one proposition.
CLARK COUNTY RACES AND MEASURES
Charter Amendment 16 would raise the Clark County sheriff's salary to be 8% higher than the top of the salary range for undersheriff. Amendment 17 would change up the county's redistricting procedure by expanding the redistricting committee to seven members who are nonpartisan, rather than recommended by political parties.
Amendment 18 would change the county's initiative petition process to require petitioners to obtain statements from the county documenting any anticipated increased costs that the measure would incur for the county if passed.
CITY OF VANCOUVER MEASURES
Vancouver has five charter amendments and one proposition on the ballot. Charter Amendment 8 updates the language concerning vacancies in elected office to better match modern ADA standards, Amendment 9 adjusts the process for raising the salaries of city commissioners and Amendment 10 clarifies language about the city's budget drafting process.
Amendment 11 eliminates a requirement that long-term city contracts must be approved by ordinance, Amendment 12 changes the initiative petition rules to allow for electronic signatures. Proposition 4 is a levy to fund police and public safety services.
