EUGENE, Ore. (AP) - Two Springfield teens have been sentenced to more than six years in prison for killing a Pleasant Hill man in a street-racing collision.
The Register-Guard reports Jonathan Roman Delgado and David Pena Gomez were sentenced Tuesday in the June death of 45-year-old Roland Vilett, who had been standing outside his home when he was struck by Delgado's vehicle. Both teens previously pleaded guilty to manslaughter.
Prosecutors said the two 17-year-olds had been racing at speeds over 100 mph when Pena Gomez swerved to avoid a woman in the road and struck Delgado's car. The Chevy Camaro Delgado had been driving then careened off the roadway and hit Vilett.
Both teens apologized to Vilett's family in court Tuesday.
They will serve their sentences in a youth facility.
