COQUILLE, Ore. (AP) The man charged with murder in the decade-old slaying of 15-year-old Leah Freeman in Coquille pleaded not guilty at his arraignment Tuesday in Coos County.
The Register-Guard reports 28-year-old Nicholas James McGuffin cried as he was led into the courtroom.
He was Leah Freeman's boyfriend at the time she disappeared in June 2000 after leaving a friend's house to walk home. Her body was found five weeks later.
McGuffin was arrested Monday after he was indicted in the cold case investigation. He's jailed with bail set at $2 million.
