Wilsonville fire destroys apartment complex, damages nearby condos; police seeking tips

The cause of the fire is still under investigation. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking to see any surveillance video that captured someone or something suspicious.

WILSONVILLE, Ore. — Nobody was injured after a three-alarm fire spread destroyed a three-story apartment complex before spreading to nearby condominiums in Wilsonville early Sunday morning, fire officials report.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking for tips from the public, in particular any surveillance video from the area that captured anything suspicious at the time of the start of the fire.

The fire began around 1 a.m. Sunday at a three-story apartment complex currently under construction in the area of Southwest Collina Lane and Southwest Orleans Avenue in Wilsonville. The fire quickly spread to nearby homes in the neighborhood, which is densely packed with condominiums, apartments and row houses, fire officials said.

Many residents were displaced. Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue reported that 20 occupied condominiums suffered significant fire damage and that many of those 20 are "considered a total loss."

Dozens of other condominiums had blown-out windows and damaged siding from the heat, and a construction shack, construction equipment and 14 cars and trucks were also destroyed.

Crews from Tualatin Valley Fire & Rescue, Lake Oswego Fire Department, Canby Fire District and Aurora Fire District worked to evacuate residents and by 4 a.m., the fire was "considered under control."

The Clackamas County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help as it investigates the cause of the fire.

"We would like to hear from residents in the area who have home surveillance that captured anything suspicious to include vehicles or people in the area during the fire or prior to the start," the sheriff's office said in a release.

If you have surveillance footage of someone or something suspicious or saw something suspicious, please call the non-emergency line at 503-655-8211 or submit an online tip here. Please reference CCSO Case No. 19-007264.
