PORTLAND, Ore. — A 30-year-old man died at the hospital hours after he was shot near Northeast Sandy Boulevard and Prescott Street, Portland police said.
Officers were dispatched at 2:36 a.m. to a report of a person shot and found an injured man who was taken to a hospital, where he later died.
Police later identified the victim as Justin Stewart. The state medical examiner said Stewart died of homicidal violence and his manner of death was a gunshot wound.
The suspect, 30-year-old Tyler Wayne Pierce, was arrested for first-degree manslaughter, unlawful possession of a loaded firearm in public, and unlawful possession of a firearm.
The gun used in the shooting was recovered.
There is no ongoing threat to the public, police said.
