BATTLE GROUND, Wash. - A mail truck caught fire Wednesday afternoon, but the postal carrier was able to save the mail from burning.

Fire crews were called to NE 194th Ave. in Battle Ground just before 1 p.m. Wednesday on reports of a mail truck on fire, said Firefighter Rob Moon of Clark Co. Fire District 3. As firefighters were battling the flames, the truck's parking brake failed and the vehicle rolled about 50 feet down the road. No one was injured, but the truck suffered an estimated $20,000 damage and is beyond repair.

The fire department said the truck's driver, postal carrier Linda Just, was able to save the mail from the truck before emergency crews arrived. A delivery supervisor later came to the scene and picked up the mail.
