PORTLAND, Ore. — Early Sunday, a woman was shot and killed in the Hazelwood neighborhood, according to the Portland Police Bureau.
At 2:42 a.m., officers responded to reports of a person shot at the intersection of Northeast 104th Avenue and Wasco Street. When officers arrived, they found a woman dead.
On Aug. 19, Portland police identified the woman as 33-year-old Melody Rooks. The medical examiner determined Rooks died from a gunshot wound and ruled her death a homicide.
No arrests have been made and no suspects have been detained.
This is the city's 45th homicide according to KGW records and the 36th fatal shooting. Those numbers are down slightly from 2023 when there were 53 homicides at this time.
