Woman struck and killed in Northeast Portland crash

The crash happened Tuesday afternoon. Police identified the victim on Thursday. The driver wasn't impaired and was driving the speed limit or slower, police said.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A woman was hit and killed Tuesday afternoon in Northeast Portland, the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) reported.

On Thursday afternoon, PPB identified the woman as Shui E. Yuan. She was 84 years old.

Police said the driver stayed at the scene after the crash. He was driving the speed limit or slower when the crash happened and was not impaired. Police said nobody has been arrested or cited.

The crash happened at 5:43 p.m. Tuesday. According to police, Yuan was walking in the eastbound lanes of Northeast Sandy Boulevard, near 65th Avenue, when she was hit.

During the investigation Tuesday, police closed Northeast Sandy Boulevard between 65th Avenue and 66th Avenue.

This was the second traffic-related death in Portland in 2024. There have been three total this year.
