Legacy Health opens 21,000-square-foot expanded medical center in Silverton

Legacy expects to start welcoming patients to the new emergency room March 18.

PORTLAND, Ore. — A much-needed expansion of Legacy Health’s Silverton Medical Center is complete.

The extra 21,000 square feet will help the medical center keep up with the growing population of the Mid-Willamette Valley region. The approximately $37 million expansion includes a significant addition to the emergency department to increase the total bed capacity from 12 patient rooms to 20 with larger treatment bays, designed specifically to treat trauma and cardiac patients, plus provide women services.

"Providing high-quality health care has been our top priority at Legacy Silverton Medical Center for decades," said Joe Yoder, President of Legacy Silverton Medical Center. "

Construction on the expanded facility started in July 2022. The completed renovations include a new hospital entrance with a covered drop-off and pick-up zone, a new welcoming area with a newly designed coffee shop and private admitting booths.

A new helicopter landing pad was also added to help get patients to Legacy’s level-one trauma center in Portland more safely and quickly. In the past, helicopters had to land in the Silverton Medical Center’s parking lot.

Legacy expects to start welcoming patients to the new emergency room March 18.

“This construction project positions us well both now and into the future as we look to ensure patients in the mid-Willamette Valley can access world-class health care services close to home,” Yoder said.
